IT’S ALL IN THE EYES!
Eyes are the windows to our soul. Soft tissues around the eyes convey rich messages about our emotions and thoughts. Most know that the gaze is integral in the psychology of falling in love. Judgments of all kinds are made on the basis of eye expressions and eye contact. The interview, or the audition is a time and a place when the eyes are “maximized” to achieve the desired goal of communication. Accordingly, eyes have always been the object of beautification with make-up, but as times change, lasers are increasingly relied on to preserve beauty while maximizing the eyes in communication. .
Benign skin bumps on the face are common, and often very annoying. But the person who suffers from bumps around the eyes must view the world through “imperfections”. Sometimes this is a source of considerable consternation. For Art, a 70 year old man, there were the Xanthelasma, yellow colored flat skin pouches full of lipid (fat) filled cells. He also pointed out some pigmented skin tags on his neck before a laser remedy was recommended for the various benign bumps. The tags & Xanthelasma were easily removed by the Erb-Yag traditional laser, while the Fractionated ErbYag laser was the method used to revitalize the man’s full face. The full face was gently stimulated to brighten and smooth the skin. He had a small chance of recurrence of the yellow pouches, but he was excited to enjoy his new found fresh look.
Jamie has always taken issue with the dark circles under her eyes. Of course, it was true that she was ascending the ladder in terms of years, now 37 years old, but it was also apparent that she was beginning to notice the prominence of the dark circles under her eyes. She looked drawn as the under eye skin was clearly prolapsing into the soft place under the eyes, resting on the bony eye circle. The fact that the skin was dehydrated by progressive loss of collagen and water made the skin dark as it recessed into the eye circles. The loss of cellularity and elasticity in this skin likened it to a shrunken balloon, dark, wrinkled and volume contracted. Her image now was fatigued as the cue was taken by others that she looked “tired”. She had “bags under the eyes”.
This classic and common problem was addressed simply by a Erbium Yag Fractionated Laser Peel that was able to induce a frenzy of new cell proliferation, followed by the dominos of tissue building such as increased collagen and water retention in her previously lethargic skin. The Erb-Yag laser was fractionated such that the laser created columns of vaporized tissue, deep and perpendicular to the surface. This would serve as an axis of stimulation for this event. The outcome is generally very positive and includes: greater skin firmness, radiance, more uniform color, smoother texture, greater fullness of the tissue, and fewer wrinkles. Jamie did not have to pay dearly for this benefit, as she spent only one or two days comfortably at home until by day three she was out and about with make up to cover the minimal rash. By day 5 she was able to drop the make up and her appearances had already begun to improve.
Loretta was in her 50’s and having some difficulty reconciling her droopy tired look with the reality of her energetic and playful spirit. Her brows were drooping, asymmetrically for the first time in her life. There were no health issues other than droopy lax skin on her now asymmetric forehead. She was advised that this was an unfortunate but typical pattern of aging, especially for a fair Caucasion of her vintage. The problem with a droopy brow was the cascade of secondary changes that further crumpled the skin on the upper lid. She pinched and stretched the thin dark skin to reveal great redundance. The wrinkles around her crow’s feet were now deeper, multiple, and newer. Some of her wrinkles bisected her brow, unlike her previous classic crow’s feet. These were advanced wrinkles.
Loretta was provided a Hyaluronic Acid Filler to the brows, immediately restoring symmetry and vitality to her brows/face. Within 10 minutes her face had transformed. She also committed to the Gold Standard, a (Erb-Yag) Laser Peel, to reverse some of the advanced skin thinning and wrinkles. Six months later her skin color warmed from gray to fleshy pink. Her skin fullness was evident as there was fullness to her now curved cheeks. The light bounced off her even colored and smooth face, as she looked greatly vitalized, and more confident.
Eyes are the most important social feature on the face. They are insidiously aging in many ways, often without even realizing it. There are some reasonably simple and safe options for improvement, anti-aging, without requirement for surgery or anesthesia.
